This publication shares the outcomes and proceedings of the 2024 Interspecies Internet ‘Animals in Translation’ Workshop

The challenge of translating, interpreting, and understanding animal communication has captivated the imagination of storytellers, philosophers, and scientists for centuries. Now, with recent advances in AI and the collaboration of experts in diverse fields, we believe the timing has come for a significant breakthrough.

  • About the Publication

Interspecies Internet is proud to present its first digital publication Animals in Translation: Imagining Criteria and Frameworks for Decoding Communication in Other Species.

This landmark document represents a significant advancement in our understanding of animal communication systems and establishes new standards for the field.

  • Workshop Proceedings

This publication shares the outcomes and proceedings of the Interspecies Internet 2024 Workshop held in April 2024. Co-hosted by the Santa Fe Institute, with interest from the XPRIZE Biodiversity and Conservation team, the workshop brought together 40 thought leaders from diverse fields with a common goal: co-developing a set of criteria to demonstrate successful decoding of another animal's communication system.

  • A Collaborative Milestone

This collection of interdisciplinary insights represents an unprecedented community effort that stands as state-of-the-art research and a landmark for the study of both intraspecies and interspecies communication.

It is our hope that bringing together brilliant minds from diverse fields to guide the focus of future research will pave the way for a new era of interspecies communication.

The journey towards successfully understanding and decoding animal communication is interdisciplinary and collaborative. By bringing together experts from diverse fields, we aimed to establish a framework to guide future research endeavors, paving the way for a new era of interspecies communication.
